How do you balance work and home life?

There is no balance.  Life is a teeter totter that needs constant monitoring. That is my honest opinion.

The concept of a balanced life should be translated to a “prioritized” life.  Actually, the word “priority” means to put a thing, action, or person in line from top to bottom in importance. The top item is of utmost importance.

Balancing puts it all on one line, creating the appearance of equal.  This means I could pick any item in a balanced life, and it is equally as important as all the rest.  It also means to me that whatever I pick does not affect anything else in that balanced line.  Where does that happen?  No where.

For example, finishing a sales proposal vs. taking a child to soccer practice.  Both are equally important, but one needs to happen to support the other to exist.  Choosing one before the other has consequences on either side.  I still have to decide which one is more important.

In that fleeting moment that the teeter totter is actually at balance, I should feel accomplished, but what I am thinking inside is, “Who is going to get off this damn thing first?” Then I’m jumping to the side that needs the counter weight.

No, after all the things that have happened with work, marriage, and parental care, balance is a concept but not a reality I will attempt to achieve now. Communication, completion, and understanding are my goals. These alone are true achievements.
