What’s the oldest things you’re wearing today?
My socks!
For years, my parents would give us socks in our Christmas stockings. Sometimes, those stockings would be overflowing with gifts, but always at the bottom were socks. My dad would give us white tube socks, and mom would have found something cute like the favorite dog for that year. Sometimes, she would find beautiful, artsy socks. The kind you would be afraid to ruin.
When I got married and became a step mom, I continued the trend. The kids quickly realized that this was the time to request a special pair or ask to get ankle socks for the year. It became a game of sorts, and the kids started in on it. Every year, my husband and I would discover strange colors, styles, and favorite teams in the form of socks in our Christmas stocking. It was fun.
Now, my husband continues the trend. But I get a whole bag of socks now. We both have socks we haven’t opened! So the socks I have on this morning are probably 4 years old, but I’m wearing them for the second time ever! Talk about a sock drawer!
